  • Overview

    Zebra's Global Trade Compliance team is responsible for supporting all business functions related to cross-border transactions.  The Trade Compliance Specialist II position is responsible for supporting the North America-Latin America ("NALA") operations department of Zebra's Trade Compliance team. 

     

    As the position is based out of our Sao Paulo office, the Specialist will, in particular, be responsible for customs compliance for Zebra's imports into Brazil but will also support Zebra's imports and exports throughout LATAM. 

     

    This position reports to the Manager of Trade Compliance for NALA. 

    Responsibilities

    • Policies, Procedures, Processes (Creation & Implementation)
      • Ensures compliance is documented throughout the supply chain by maintaining existing process flows.
    • Systems & Product Database Management / Trade Data Management (e.g., HTS, ECCN, COO)
      • Ensures accuracy of import and export classifications by working with Engineering to review drawings/specifications and supplier information as reference for proper HTS assignment;
      • Monitors and maintains trade compliance elements in the various databases by working with IT and other departments;
      • Supports integration of data, systems, and procedures;
      • Releases holds in Global Trade Management per one's scope of responsibility.
    • Regulatory Updates & Guidance to Various Internal & External Stakeholders
      • Keeps abreast of regulatory changes within the assigned area of specialization and notifies the manager of the changes in laws and regulations.
      • Suggests certain sources of updates to the manager for her or his review.
    • Customs Broker Selection & Management
      • Supports management of relationship with Customs Brokers, reviews post-entry import files, periodically audits part database.
    • Clearance / Processes / Export Controls (Export, Import or Both)
      • Identifies procedural gaps and areas if improvement by creating and maintaining departmental procedures;
      • Manages various day-to-day compliance issues, as well as supports with other projects as requested by the manager;
      • Releases holds in GTM per one's scope of responsibility.
    • Recordkeeping
      • Supports manager and senior specialists when maintaining the database;
      • Identifies gaps, offers ideas closing the gaps in recordkeeping, and implements them with manager's approval.
    • Trade Compliance Audits & Investigations
      • As assigned, conducts export and import audits pursuant to the established Trade Compliance Audit program;
      • Supports senior specialists and managers when they audit and investigate certain issues.
    • Training (Internal & External)
      • Trains trade compliance members on various systems and tools, i.e., Global Trade Management (GTM);
      • Creates courses on certain topics of export and import compliance, as assigned by the manager;
      • Offers ideas on the topics and program improvement.
    • Communication with the Government
      • Assists senior specialists and managers with the collection of information for responses to government inquiries.

    Qualifications

    • Required Education:
      • Bachelor’s or Master's Degree in Business, Finance, Communications, or Law is preferred. A degree including classes in computer science, data management, communications, engineering, business, and/or economics also considered
      • Certified Export Specialist (CES) or its regional / country equivalent will be required
      • Certified Import Specialist (CIS) or its regional / country equivalent will be required
    • Preferred Work Experience and Licenses:
      • A minimum of 2-5 years of trade compliance experience, such as regulatory work involving import and/or export laws & regulations
      • Licensed Customs Broker is preferred
      • Trade compliance experience with a U.S.-owned company is preferred
    • Key Skills and Competencies:
      • Languages
        • Portuguese fluency (native proficiency) is required
        • English fluency is required
        • Spanish fluency is preferred
      • Export license application experience (including commodity classification determinations, Commodity Jurisdiction, sanctions work, etc.) is preferred
      • Excellent writing skills are required.
      • Excellent communication skills are required.
      • Project Management knowledge is required.
      • Advanced knowledge of MS Word and Excel is required
      • Excellent time management skills required and must be a self-starter with a desire to improve processes
